Zoinks! (Pop Punk/USA)

Zoinks! was both the expression Shaggy would make on "Scooby Doo" and a great pop punk band from Reno, Nevada. The band formed in 1993 and began playing basement shows, releasing their own singles and booking their own tours soon afterwards. This picture is of the band arriving in Seattle on their first Northwest tour, they crashed at my apartment in the U-District. At the time they were a three-piece with Zac singing and on guitar, Rob on bass, and Bob drumming. Zoinks! eventually got pretty big and released quite a few records on Dr. Strange Records, they also had cuts on a few big mid-'90s punk compilations on Lookout! and Epitaph. They were a great catchy band with often funny lyrics, not unlike Seattle band Sicko. The band broke up on 1998.

Zac went on to be in Screeching Weasel for a while ("Major Label Debut" and "Television City Dream" albums), Squirtgun, Crushstory, Common Rider, and currently plays in Big in Japan.

In 2007 Zoinks! reformed and has played out a few times live again. Check out their MySpace page for more info and song samples (the song about being in love with Uma Thurman is still awesome 12 years later). Zoinks! stayed with me on at least two tours and I've hung out with them multiple times in Reno, they are great guys!

По звучанию это был очень мелодичный, цепляющий поп-панк в лучших традициях того времени. Никакого эмо, альтернативы, брейкдаунов и прочих атрибутов нынешней поп-панк сцены. Местами можно провести параллели со старым Грин Деем, иногда проскальзывают нотки Screeching Weasel (где успел поиграть вокалист Zoinks! - Zac), а еще присутствуют элементы того, что сегодня мы называем new school pop punk'ом.

Ну что я могу сказать, очень приятная, ни к чему не обязывающая группа. Никаких протестов и анисоциальщины. Поп панк граничащий с пауэрпопом: сладкие мелодии, слегка примоченые гитарки и весьма жизнеутверждающий вокал. Мне чем-то напомнили The All American Reject и Weezer.

Не так часто можно встретить группы из Нового Орлеана, ну лично мне, например, таковые практически не попадались. The Ghostwood именно оттуда. Крутые! Играют... ну в английской аннотации всё весьма круто расписано как они звучат: немножко от среднего запада, что-то с восточного побережья, не обошлось и без Гейнсвилля, при этом скорости в основном повыше средних и чувствуется отголоски панк ривайвала 90-х. Всем любителям добротного панк рока рекомендуется к ознакомлению.

Sleep Now In The Fire [Melodic Hardcore, Fast/Chile]

Молодая Чилийская группа( Atacama), с которой меня познакомил наш хороший друг Шура! Отличные скорости, мелодика, красивый вокал (напомнил мне моих любимых Anhelo).. Но, увы, ситуация омрачается электронными барабанами :(
Как написал Майкл из techskatepunk.com, они записали их таковыми, так как их барабанщик живет очень далеко. Но очень скоро они соберутся все вместе и запишутся с хорошим звуком и живыми барабанами!
От всей души желаю ребятам (они еще в школе учатся) творческих успехов и прогресса! Ибо сам я питаю страсть к латиноамериканским группам :)

Young and promising band from Atacama, Chile. Our good friend Shura from Dnepr introduced them to me couple weeks ago.
Good speed, melody and vocals (remind me of my beloved band Anhelo).. But it's not that good as it seems because of electronic drums :(

As Micheal from techskatepunk.com said they recorded electronic drums because their drummer lives pretty far away from their city. But they promised to record in good quality and with live drums!
I wish the best of luck to guys, as long as I am a big fan of Latin-American bands myself:)

The Living Daylights [melodic punk/UK]

The band formed as the current line up in August 2007 and since then have played a ton of shows around the UK & Europe to promote their debut self titled EP which was released in January 2008. Along with recent Radio 1 airplay and countless reviews (from Big Cheese Magazine, Rocksound, Punktastic and many more) plans for summer look even better with the recording of their full length album and being featured on various compilation releases followed with autumn an winter UK & European tours.

Each member of the quintet bring influences to the table which make up the unique sound of The Living Daylights. being compared to bands such as Rise Against, Hot Water Music & Lifetime the band has still managed to keep their own identity with melodic and complimenting guitar hooks, hardhitting drums and singalong, catchy vocals.

Очень приятное звучание, как для группы, которая образовалась в 2007 году. Эдакая смесь из Райз Эгэйнст, Лайфтайм и Хот Вотэ Мьюзик, при этом всём группа не похожа на клон какого-либо из перечисленных коллективов, довольно оригинальна и самобытна. На данный момент могут похвастаться только прошлогодней ИПишкой, но и на том спасибо, будем ждать новых релизов...
